Celebrating Silver, but going for Gold

It’s crazy how quick this year has gone, I can’t believe we are in August already!

This month will always be weird for me. Four years ago, on the 4th of August, I was involved in a car crash that left me paralysed and fighting for my life…

It’s a date that I will obviously always remember, I guess it reminds me how far I’ve come and how thankful I am for my family and friends who helped me through it. It’s basically like I’ve got two birthdays now, who can complain about that?

With September looming, I can’t help but think about the new academic year. Whether you’re starting University as a fresher and worrying about making friends or you’re in your third year and panicking about your dissertation, it’s all a bit stressful. I’m just trying to get organized so I can manage being a student as well as an athlete.

Recently we went to Germany to play in the Under 25 European Championships. It was a great tournament for the team, bringing home Silver and also qualifying for next years under 25’s World Championships, which we’re all hoping is going to be in Australia!

Although it was disappointing to not win Gold, the future is in safe hands with this group of girls. It’s great that they had the opportunity to show that they’re ready to take on the challenge of being elite athletes performing at the highest level.

As a squad we are moving forward and preparing for the European Championships which will be held at the University of Worcester Arena in August 2015.

Training has started and everyone is feeling motivated to host an International tournament with a home crowd cheering us on. It will be amazing for the City of Worcester and also for the players who will have so much support behind them.

It’s a scary but exciting thought that it is only two years until the Paralympics which will be held in Rio. We are actually going on a trip there at the end of this month for a ‘Simulation Camp’ so we can get a flavour for the atmosphere, play some local club teams and do all the sightseeing. I think we’ll be too busy in 2016 to be topping up our tans on Copacabana beach.

In case anyone is wondering, the tan has faded!
