After I have completed my education, just one step away with my PGCE course, I want to be a teacher at a Special School, so to do this I need experience. So recently I have been working at a school in Gloucester called the Milestone School and it has been the best thing I have ever done! It has given me an insight into my future dream job, shown me the things I need to complete to get to that stage and given me more experience in the field I wish to work in.
I’ve loved working there and it’s always sad to be leaving, but it has just motivated me to work to the best of my ability so that in the future I can do the job that I so want to do. I have been working with a year 3 class of eight children and just generally helping in the day to day running of the class including helping with classes, lunch times, swimming sessions etc.
I personally have been doing this work experience because my PGCE course requires two weeks of recent experience, but I strongly recommend anyone getting any experience in the field they wish to go into after uni whether you need it for a future course or not.
So whether you want to be a teacher, a business person, a designer, a vet, an artist or anything you can think of, use this time to gain experience in the real world! It will look great on your CV to show that you are really passionate about the field you want to go into, and more than anything it will show you whether you really want to go into this field.
My experience of getting work experience has been the best thing I have ever done and has just motivated me to work even harder to get where I want to go – I hope it does the same for you.
