It’s reaching that time when everyone is starting to feel a little uneasy about the list of assignments fastly approaching. For us last year students, it’s all about the dissertation preparation as well… and for a lot of us, we also have placement to think about!
But on top of all of the important stuff, it’s a MUST to have some time to chill out time too.
After a few years at University, most of us have exhaused our TV series collection. BUT DON’T FEAR, because I have put together a beautiful list of my favourite series at the moment.
So, put your Pj’s back on, grab some chocolate fingers, and stick on one of these bad boys….
Our Zoo.
I thought we’d start with a happy one.
This amazing drama series (set in the 1930’s) is about an ex-soldier who follows his love of animals and decides to open a Zoo. Without giving too much away, the local villagers despise the idea and think it will do nothing but ruin their home-town, but this doesn’t stop him, and he creates what we all know and love.. Chester Zoo!
It’s a super cute series, and a must if you love all things animals!
Educating the East End.
This is a follow on series from Educating Yorkshire (also brilliant.) It’s a documentary that shadows a high school full of irritating teenagers and their lessons. It’s a brilliant mix of hilarious lessons and scenes between the teachers and the pupils, and emotional achievements that show you all of the wonderful work that they have all achieved.
A documentary that will undoubtedly put a smile on your face. Also a beautiful reminder for why some of us want to be teachers.
Scott and Bailey.
A slightly random one, but one that i’ve been watching on and off with my mum over the last few years. It’s the type of series that you can flick in and out of and it still makes sense. It follows two female Detectives in the police force and each episode focuses on a particular crime that they fight to solve. It’s a little bit like CSI.. and it’s awesome.
I don’t know any one else that watches this but only because it’s not a very well known series. So, get on it!
The 100.
MY GOODNESS. This series is EPIC.
I can’t think of a single student that I know that wouldn’t love this.
In this series, Earth has been deemed ‘inhabitable’ for millions of years. Because of this, the surviving human race (only about 2000 people) live on a giant Space Station called ‘The Ark.’ Eventually the Ark’s life support systems are found to be critically failing, so ‘the 100’ juvenile prisoners on board are sent to the surface in a last attempt to determine if Earth is habitable again.
It’s an insane series that switches between the struggles of the remaining humans on The Ark, and the 100 teenagers that are trying to survive the dangers that they come across living in their new world.
Glue.
This awesome drama series is about a group of friends, one of whom (14 year old Cal) has been murdered. This series sets out to find the killer, whilst revealing the dark and dirty secrets of everyone close to him.
It’s tense, it’s sad, it’s funny, it’s jaw-droppingly shocking. It’s SO WORTH WATCHING.
Our Girl.
I have just finished watching the last episode of this. The main reason for me writing this blog was because I felt a slight sadness for any of you that missed out on this!!
It’s epically brilliant.
Staring everyone’s favourite ex-Eastenders actress “Stacy Slater” (now known as Molly), it’s all about a section in the Royal British Army who are based in Afganistan. It shadows Molly, who has recently joined as an Army Medic and the rest of her team on their Army missions and shows their blossoming friendships.
Fantastic acting.
It’s literally the best thing i’ve seen in ages,.
And last but not least….
Orange is the new Black.
I’m pretty sure most of you know what this is already. Peer pressure forced me to watch it when my entire twitter and facebook feeds were talking about it and I felt left out, (sad.. I know.)
But i’m so glad I joined the band wagon on this one.
It’s all about Piper, a woman from New York who gets sentenced to 15 months in a woman’s federal prison.
It’s a brilliant comedy that shows the struggles of her new life in prison alongside her weird and wonderful inmates, whilst showing her ever-increasing battle to save her relationship with a man who’s waiting for her on the outside.
It’s absolutely hilarious.
So there you have it!
My favourite TV series of the moment.
When you’ve finished all of your work and you really need some time out, stick one of these on.
You’ll thank me.
Let me know what you think!
