10 Fun Things To Do Over Summer

Last summer I was bored stiff. Within the first month of summer break I’d already run out of ideas of things to do, and I still had three months left to occupy myself. Therefore, I plan for this summer to be action-packed and fun, so I can really make the most out of my summer before starting third year.
After searching the internet and talking to friends, I came up with a list of things I want to do with myself over summer.

Volunteer at a local charity.

Volunteering is a great way to impress future employers and is an even better way to meet a different group of people.

I have been volunteering over summer with the National Trust for three years now. Although I only volunteer once a week, it is still great fun meeting and talking to people from all different walks of life.

I’ve had the opportunity to talk to all different age groups and people from different cultural backgrounds, and have had a lot of fun in the process.

Workout.

Working out is a great way to break up the day, particularly if you’re bored over summer.
Even if you just go for a walk around your hometown, you will still be getting some exercise and getting out the house which prevents boredom.
Not to mention you’ll be helping yourself get that summer body!

Go on a picnic with friends.
Find the perfect location close to home, get each friend to bring a couple of items and have a huge picnic feast!

BBQ!
A summer must do is, of course, to have a barbecue with family and friends. Crack open some beer and put some music on and you’ll have countless evenings of fun in the sun over summer.
The weather was terrible last year and I never had a chance to have a barbecue, so I’m hoping this year I’ll have the opportunity.

Go to an activity centre.

The country is full of different activity centres, so I’m sure you’ll be able to find something close by.
Whether it be rock climbing, trampolining, swimming or ice-skating, activity centres are a great way to have fun with friends over summer.

Take a Trip!

Arrange a location to meet up with your friends from university, somewhere that is accessible to all, and spend a couple of days there.

You could meet in a city or at the beach, stay in a cheap bed and breakfast and have a great small holiday with friends. You could even go camping!

Wales has some great beaches with campsites nearby for example. It’ll be a great way to stay in contact with friends who live far away and be a nice get away from the real world for a while!

Explore your hometown.

I bet your hometown has a lot of cool bars, clubs and activities you either don’t know about or haven’t tried yet. Summer can be a great opportunities to explore all there is to offer in your hometown.
Finding a local beer garden could be a great way to entertain yourself and friends on a hot summer evening.

Work Experience.

Work experience placements look great on your CV once you finish university, and summer is the perfect time to complete a placement.

Having very little responsibility over summer means you can give your placement your undivided attention, making the most out of the experience and thus helping you decide what career path you would like.

Join a sports club.

Sports clubs can be great fun. Why don’t you try a sport you’ve never done before? It would be a great way to meet new people and you could potentially develop a new hobby. If you’re too nervous to go alone, drag some friends along with you to make it even more fun.

Make a scrapbook.

If you manage to have an action-packed summer (like I hope to), make a scrapbook to document all the fun you’ve had. That way you’ll always have the memories to look back on and it may even give you some ideas of things to do over future summers.

Summer is a great opportunity to develop new skills, make new friends and live stress-free for a couple of months before you have to come back to reality and start university again.

Make sure you make the most of it! If you find yourself getting bored, try doing something on this list, or get on the internet and find something fun to do!
