When I moved to University my major concern was missing home. I’m an independent person, but I am a proper family girl and enjoy spending time at home. The first few weeks of University was very hard but a few things made it easier and hopefully they will help you when you move out!
We all know the myth according to which students live on pizza, chicken nuggets and beans on toast. Oh, and let’s not forget, coffee. Like all myths, there is a seed of truth in there. Yes, we are famous for not eating “properly”, but we can’t afford to gear our fridge like Nigella and cooking a roast dinner for one… Doesn’t really make sense, does it?
It is amazing what you can do with a white shirt, some felts and paint. Through the many different themed socials at university I have mastered many a costume starting with a white shirt. A Clown Shirt, Snowmen, Army and Zombie are just a few to name.
Moving in to University, the temptation to go out every night and treat yourself to a new pair of shoes or a brand new game with you loan is hard to resist. But do. This will sound like the kind of nagging speech, the kind the parents give. But from one student to another, I have been there with no money and it’s not fun.
Moving into Wulfstan (my halls of residence) was an exciting moment, start of my university adventure. It was the first time I’d lived away from home; I couldn’t wait to enjoy my new independence. Although it was a rather nervous moment, walking into a flat with 5 strangers you would spend the next year with, thinking back there are a lot of good memories there.
Ok, this is the 3rd piece I write on Halls of Residence. Have a look at my previous ones – Living in Halls – Travel around the world and Living in Halls – the night study campus
Uni Life is not all fun and games, and being the first time the majority of us have live away from our parents and families is hard sometimes. Most of time, we have our distractions, were too busy doing work or partying but sometimes we get the feeling of homesickness.
