Fun and Uplifting shows to watch whilst we’re all in quarantine.

Student Blogger Svetlana Pasilova gives us a run down of some quality television to take your mind of the situation:

This post was published on 2nd April 2020. Any references to self-isolation, travel or meeting others was accurate at the time of writing but the guidance may have changed since. Please always refer to the latest Government advice.

Self-isolating and social-distancing can be a bit boring after a few days. The house is super clean, you tried every meditation app there is and you’ve made every pasta dish you can think of.  It’s important to remember that it’s completely OK to take some time for yourself. It can be hard to stay on top of everything and there’s no such a thing as guilt for binge-watching another TV Show!

Moreover, Netflix launched the “Netflix party”. Now you can binge-watch your favourite shows with your best friends!

So, here’s some suggestions of what I think you should watch during this time:

  1. Friends

There’s no need to introduce this famous TV Show from the ’90s. Six friends, one coffee house, living their best (and worst) lives in New York City. Ten series will bring you unexpected life stories with a sparkle of sarcasm as well as the nostalgia of good old times without Snapchat and with pagers instead of a smartphone. You can find Friends on Netflix!

Challenge: How many cameo actors can you name?

  1. Tidying up with Marie Kondo

You’ve probably already cleaned your house. But have you really cleaned it? Marie Kondo is the Japanese author of “Cleaning with Marie Kondo”. She introduced a “Konmari” cleaning method where you declutter your house by getting rid of things that do not “spark joy”. Her method is so popular that Forbes listed her as one of the most influential people on the planet with an estimated value of over $300 million. I bet you wish you could make that kind of money with cleaning, right? Luckily for you, Netflix has made Marie Kondo a series where she teaches her cleaning method and, I promise you, a drawer with socks sorted by colour has never been more exciting!

  1. Bold Type

Do you miss your colleagues? This light-hearted comedy TV show will bring you to the headquarters of Women’s Lifestyle magazine – Scarlet. You will follow the New York lifestyle of three friends – Jane, Sutton, and Kate who are exploring who they are and how do they fit into the world. This drama is inspired by the life of the Cosmopolitan’s former editor in chief – Joanna Coles. What is the best about this TV show except for hilarious plot twists? It reacts to current social topics such as feminism, equality, and exploring sexuality.

  1. Queer Eye

Everyone needs a Fab Five in their life! Do you love watching makeovers? IF it’s a yes from you, then I can guarantee you you’ll love this one as well! Five experts in the areas of culture, fashion, design, food and wine, and grooming come into the life of regular Americans and give them the complete life makeover they deserve. The show serves you with hip tips, emotionally packed makeovers and the positivity you deserve! You can binge-watch 5 seasons on Netflix!

  1. Sex Education

You have probably heard about this one. But did you know, that Netflix recently dropped a second season? This comedy show was shot in South Wales and brings you the struggles of teenagers with a really cool retro vibe. The plot twists are imaginative and often funny. Sex Education is trying to portray an ideal world in which you don’t have to be ashamed for who you are as well as opens a room for discussion about sexuality and complicated human relationships.
